Say She She
I’ve recently fallen in love with the song ‘C’est Si Bon’ by the band Say She She - it’s so damn discodelic and funky, it’s living rent-free in my brain on repeat right now. Anyhow, I’d been asked to create a painting about 🪩 dancing, going to clubs and generally having a good time so I channelled that vibe into this contemporary vanitas painting. Obviously there is a gigantic mirror ball 🪩 slap bang in the mid-field. I’ve included a rather cheeky looking bobbly orange glass vase I found in Edinburgh, which feels like a funked up 70’s nod to the German Röemer glasses in Peter Claesz’ 17th century Dutch still lives. Of course there are fruit too, of the exotic “shropshire tropicalia” ilk - 🍊 🥭🍍. The top of the composition is dominated by a bouquet of rambunctious tulips 🌷 sprouting from my funky dude head vase. There is an Aladdin’s lamp 🪔 in the foreground to make all your dreams come true and it points to a 🍋 lemon yellow stiletto, which would clearly be my dancing shoe of dreams.
