May Bank Holiday 2024 - I live painted a terracotta beehive or bee ‘Skep’ outside Attingham Park’s Georgian Bee house to highlight the importance of Bees to our countryside. My design featured painting of bees and flowers that used my trademark ‘Shropshire Tropicalia’ colours on sweet peas, Irises and Rhododendrons. I also incorporated a poem by my father Richard Caddel ‘Songs on the Silence of Bees’ which connects the plight of Bees with more personal themes of family and loss. 4 other artists and illustrators also created skeps as well as CBEEBIES TV presenter Maddie Moate. You can view all the skeps painted for the project on display at Attingham Park until the end of the summer in the walled garden bothy.
