What is painting ‘en plein air’?

Painting ‘en plein air’ 🌬️

🎨 🌴 🌺 🎨 🌴 🌺 🎨 🌴 🌺 🎨 🌴 🌺

I love to paint outdoors, surrounded by nature and joyful, life-affirming colour . Last week I was lucky enough to spend a lovely seven days with my family in the warm and beautiful Balearic island of Menorca. The rich smell of herbs and pine permeates the landscape, and we stayed in a stunning villa with gardens full of palm trees 🌴 hibiscus 🌺 fruit trees and cacti 🌵. Feeling all the Shropshire Tropicalia here!

I painted a series of five vertical 16x8 watercolours en plein air - outside and responding directly to the shapes and colours I observed. I love this fresh and immediate way of working and I’m really pleased with the results- Which is your favourite? Check them out for yourself this Sunday 27th April at the Shrewsbury Flaxmill DRAWN art festival ! DM if you would like to reserve.

Really excited that my forthcoming plein air workshop at National Trust: Attingham Park on Tuesday 6th May has sold out, I still have some places available for my landscape workshop this Saturday 26th at the Trinity centre, Meole Brace 10-4 book now at www.lucycaddel.com
